The most common cause of a Subaru check engine light being on with the cruise control light flashing is a loose or missing fuel cap. In my case, someone lost the gas cap on my car, which caused the check engine light to come on and the cruise control light to flash. When this happens, there is nothing wrong with your cruise control. Tightening the gas cap, or replacing it will fix the problem, and the lights will eventually go out while you are driving.
