"There are a lot of impractical things about owning a Porsche. But they are all offset by the driving experience. It's unique, and few cars come close in handling to the Porsche." – Kevin O’Leary

The understated strive for efficiency cannot be better expressed in this interesting video that will explain all you need to know about immobilizer bypass or how its removal works in Porsche 993 / 911. The video will also explain how the Key FOB, immobilizer, alarm system typically operates in Porsche models. The annoying part we want to help you avoid is pressing the Key FOB twice to start the car. If you don't press the key FOB for a second time, the car won't crank, which translates to it won't start.

-What is the key FOBs and Car immobilizer?
Car Immobilizers are anti-theft systems in your Porsche that works with key FOB. The key FOB has coded transponder chip embedded in it. Each key FOB has a unique code. The car will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key FOB matches the code in the car's immobilizer.

This protocol used in this video is compatible with Porsche 911 between 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998.

-How does the system work out-of-the factory?
Within proximity of your car, press on the key FOB remote, which send signals into the immobilizer control unit.

The immobilizer control unit has an antenna that picks up the signals from the key FOB remotes. The immobilizer control unit is located on the floor of the car, under the driver's seat, right next to the engine computer. The antenna receives that signal, if it's a good key FOB. The first thing the immobilizer does is, send a signal through your alarm control unit located on the floor under the passenger's seat. This enables you to open the driver's door and enter the car. Pressing the key the second time disables the drive-lock system inside the ECU. The drive lock is what prevents a car from starting and running. The other thing that happens simultaneously during the second click is that the alarm control unit closes/disable the starter relay. The disabled starter relay allows the engine to crank when you turn the key. With the motor and flywheel spinning, the reference sensor notify or send a signal to the engine computer, which initiates the sparks from plug and fuel combustion.

-How does the upgrade work? Pros and Cons!

• Modification to the engine computer allows for a bypass of drive lock within it, which implies it no longer needs instructions from the key FOB, and immobilizer in other to provide spark and fuel signals.
• The second step is replacing the starter relay with a starter jumper. The second step ensures after the first FOB click; the engine can crank when you start the car with the ECU already modified to bypass drive block control.
• The beauty of the upgrade is everything remains intact. Your doors locks will open, and the alarm system will function normally.
• On rare occasions, mainly for racing purposes, if you don't want the FOB, we will remove the immobilizer unit and run a bypass of the drive lock in the ECU.
• But the side effect is you won't be able to have the convenient feature of remotely opening the door locks, and you will need a jumper cable to link the OBD2 port to the ECU.
