Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Subaru Outback wagon. We're going to be taking a look at it, and showing you how to install the draw tight max frame trailer hitch receiver. So one of the things I really like about the hitch is the way it's going to look, once you have it installed on the back of your Subaru. Since the main portion of the hitch sits behind the bumper, it's going to be pretty much completely hidden. And only thing you're really going to be able to see is the receiver tube opening here.

And one of the things that they'll separate this one from some of the other hitches is that the receiver tube opening is going to come out past our bumper a little ways. And that's important for those folding accessories and a lot of Outback wagon owners love to use those folding type accessories. And since it comes out a little bit further, it's going to give us that extra clearance that we need to put them accessories in the upright position, without having to worry about them hitting the rear bumper. The hitch is also going to sit nice and tight up against the bottom of our Subaru, and that's going to help maximize our ground clearance. So if you do happen to use a cargo carrier or something like that, it comes out a little bit. Shouldn't have to worry about it, bottoming out when you're going up a steep hill or big bump or something like that. But with that being said, this is a class three hitch.

So it's going to have a two inch by two inch opening, super common size and tons of accessories available for the size. It's going to have a reinforced collar for extra strength, and it's going to use the standard five eighths pin and clip. The pin and clip does not come included, but if you need one, you can pick it up here at etrailer. There's also a smaller hole in front of our pin hole and that's there to be used with a J-Pin, and what that J-Pin does is eliminates any rattle or play here in the connection point. They have loop style safety chain openings, which are pretty thick and heavy duty. And give us enough room to use just about any size hook that we might have.

As far as he hitches weight capacities go, it's going to have a 525 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating. So that's going to be the amount of weight that's pushing down on the hitch. That's a pretty high number. So you should be able to use just about any size bike rack or cargo carrier that you would want to. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, it's going to be 3,500 pounds, and that's going to be the amount of weight that's pulling on the hitch.

So it's the weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have on it. And we always like to recommend, it's never a bad idea to check with your Subaru's owner's manual to make sure your Outback wagon can pull that much weight. Now, I'm going to give you a couple of measurements, and you're going to use this to help figure out which hitch mounted accessories to get. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening. It's going to be about 16 inches. So chances are pretty good, if you do plan on doing a little bit of towing, you're probably going to need to get a ball mount a slight rise. From the center of the hitch pin hole, to the edge of our rear bumper. That's going to be about an inch and a half, and you're going to use that measurement to help figure out that if any folding accessories you might have, can be stored in that upright position without contacting the bumper. So at the end of the day, a hitch you really can't go wrong with, it's going to look good and perform for any situation that you might be in.Now as far as the installation goes, even though it sits behind the bumper, it's really not that bad, actually. It's pretty easy to get to. Shouldn't take you a whole lot of time. Believe it or not. In my past experience, these are almost easier to install than the ones that hang below, because you have so much more room to work once the fascia is out of the way.So to begin our installation, we're going to be here at the back of our Subaru, and we are going to need to remove our fascia because the hitch does sit behind the fascia here. So first thing we're going to do is open up our hatch and pull our tail lights out. So to get the tail lights out, we'll have to take this little cover off. We're going to have two little plastic Phillips head screws. With these you
