Ferrari enjoyed their most dominant period from 2000 to 2004 when Michael Schumacher was driving for them. This period would yield five consecutive championships, however they would only be able win 2 more constructor’s championships and a single drivers’ championship in the 15 years since. Drivers like Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel have tried and failed to get Ferrari back to its championship-winning ways and now Charles Leclerc is one of the drivers they are hedging their bets with.

I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World:

“Charles Leclerc is the New Schumacher for Ferrari”

Former F1 test driver Davide Valsecchi began by looking at the impact Leclerc has already had with Ferrari and spoke about the faith Ferrari has placed in him

"Charles has already shown that he can perform at the level of Sebastian Vettel. Now that Ferrari has decided to go for the world title with him, it indicates that the team has the utmost confidence in the driver"

He also gave his thoughts on the trouble Ferrari might have in managing their 2020 line-up of Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel

"It's a good decision because I think Ferrari will have a lot of trouble managing Leclerc and Vettel. In 2019 there were already three battles between the two drivers"

"It looks like Leclerc is going to be the new Schumacher for Ferrari. His time has now come to fight for the world championship”

Kubica Reflects on 2008 Season

Robert Kubica was a highly rated driver and was seen by many F1 experts as a future world champion.

A horrific crash in a rally race would cut his career short and even though he would return to F1 in 2019, he could never achieve the greatness many had earmarked him for

He, however, did have a great season in 2008 with him leading the championship at one point
He looked back at that season and explained how it was the only chance he had to win the championship

"We didn't have the fastest car, that's a fact. Normally the fastest car would win the championship, but not in this case. Somehow we always managed to take advantage of the mistakes of others, so we led the championship without being the fastest. I think 2008 was the only year that I could fight for the Championship"

He then spoke about what could have been

"Sometimes you have to take your chances, because you don't know if you will ever get the same chance again"

“I still have some regrets about it, but I also feel that I was fortunate to be in this position – because there are many talented drivers who never had that chance.”
